RENDEZVOUS 2010
RENDEZVOUS 2010
Port Browning Harbour – Aug. 20 – 21, 2010
Well, it's all over now! By all accounts it was a very successful event. It was also the largest gathering of CanoeCovers with 41 boats and 95 people in attendance.
Most members arrived on Friday starting at about 1000 hrs. and continued through the day and evening, with Tanna III arriving at 2230 hrs. At 1600 hrs we gathered for the usual BYOB appetizer meet and greet which lasted until around 1800 hrs when most members went back to their boats or just wandered around the dock. One of the features most mentioned was the convenience of one long dock which made it easier to visit and also created a very impressive site as you could look down the dock and see all the boats lined up on both sides.
Saturday was boat visiting day, bus tour day and games day. The optional boat visiting began at around 1000 hrs and continued through to mid afternoon, however, most members continued to visit most of the day.
At 0930 the optional bus tour left with 21 participants. This tour lasted about 3 hours and went to the Market, similar to the Ganges Market, Hope Bay, Renaissance, and Morning Bay Vineyard Estate. All participants on the tour said they really enjoyed it and saw parts of the island they had never seen before.
In the afternoon there was the usual bocce ball game which was enjoyed by many members.
At 1600 hrs we again gathered on the grass for the door prize draws and due to the generosity of many businesses and individual members we had a prize for everyone there. There were light appetizers served as we had all agreed that we really didn't need too much as we were going to dinner after the draws. At 1800 hrs we all headed to the cafeteria attached to the pub. The cafeteria, including the patio normally holds a maximum of 85 people but they squeezed in 94 of us. They served us right on time and the chicken and salmon dishes were very well done. After dinner we got together on the dock for desert and coffee, which went over well as it allowed members more time to socialize. Once it got dark we had to return to the boats.
On Sunday morning we tried something new, which was coffee and muffins, cakes, etc., on the dock at 0830 hrs. This proved to be quite successful and we will probably continue this in future Rendezvous.
In summary - a good time was had by all! We heard several members say on Sunday morning that they really didn't want it to end and wondered out loud if the event should be 3 days instead of 2. So, if you didn't make it this year, try to come next year — you will be glad you did!
