Started in 2004 by John Burke, a big, handsome Irishman who radiates enthusiasm, it has gained momentum and this year attracted a record 29 boats. The 2008 rendezvous was at Telegraph Harbour on Thetis Island from August 22 to 24. The highlight of the weekend is the dinner catered by the marina, but what we really like to do is visit each other's boats.
Canoe Cove was established in Sidney in April, 1958, making this the 50th year. Don Matheson, one of the original founders, is always a visitor to our rendezvous, along with his son-in-law, Steve Phillips, who now manages the business.
A very special boat in attendance was the ‘Baqooba III’, a beautiful 1959 wooden-hulled boat (one of the first to be built by Canoe Cove) and now owned by Wayne and Grevyne Wright of Pender Island.
